Bid to wind back Victorian abortion laws fails

A push to wind back abortion laws in the Victorian Parliament has failed.
Democratic Labour Party MP Rachel Carling-Jenkins recently introduced a private members’ bill to effectively ban abortions after 24 weeks.
But on Wednesday that bill was defeated 27 votes to 11 in Parliament’s 40-member Legislative Council.

Victorian heroin overdose deaths spike, average age of victims rises

The number of heroin deaths in Victoria rose by almost 20 per cent in 2015, but it is an older generation who are dying.
