Updated Pregnancy Choices Training in July

SHINE SA’s Pregnancy Choices training for has been updated and is running in July. This 2-day course defines and explains all the options available to people experiencing an unplanned pregnancy.

It is open to nurses, midwives, doctors, counsellors, community health workers, school counsellors, youth workers, Aboriginal Health Workers, and any professional who encounters clients with unplanned pregnancy.

COURSE OUTLINE

The course covers broad social and political issues and clinical options, incorporating cultural considerations into topics and resources.

The FRESH Course: SHINE SA’s Sexual Health Course for Youth & Community Workers is a dynamic 3-day course which aims to update workers to include relationships and sexual health education and support them in their work.

On completion of the FRESH Course you will have:

> an increased level of confidence working with clients in the area of sexual health

> a better understanding of how values and beliefs may influence your practice in this area of work

> a new vocabulary about sexual health and relationships to use when talking with your clients

> practical skills to address clients’ sexual health needs through assessment, program development, delivery and evaluation

> become familiar with current resources available and how to use them effectively with clients to explore the many areas of sexuality and sexual health

A further optional module, FRESH Assessment, relates to planning, delivering and evaluating a multi-session education program in the workplace.

Youth Mental Health First Aid Course at SHINE

SHINE SA, March 2017

Learn skills and gain confidence to assist young people experiencing mental health problems or crises.

If you have frequent contact with young people at work, or you are the parent of a young person, this course will help you:

  • identify the signs of mental health problems
  • know how and where to get help
  • understand what sort of help has been shown to be effective

Course Outline

Delivered by an accredited and experienced instructor, this course covers topics including depression, anxiety, eating disorders, substance use as well how to provide help and first aid in a mental health crisis such as suicidal thoughts.

This course is the latest edition (4th edition, released in 2017).

Course Details

By completing the online assessment after the course, you will receive a Certificate of Accreditation valid for 3 years.

Catering: Lunch is not provided in order to keep costs down. Please bring your own lunch, or there are several delis and cafes close to the venue if you wish to buy your lunch.

New website to help teachers talk sex and gender with students

RainbowYOUTH has launched a new website aimed to increase understanding and support of sex, gender and sexuality diversity within year 7-13 classrooms in New Zealand.

The website, Inside Out, contains free teaching resources, class guidelines and video content designed to ignite conversations.

The resource has been produced in a partnership between RainbowYOUTH, Curative, and CORE Education, and was further supported by the University of Auckland.
