A push to wind back abortion laws in the Victorian Parliament has failed.
Democratic Labour Party MP Rachel Carling-Jenkins recently introduced a private members’ bill to effectively ban abortions after 24 weeks.
But on Wednesday that bill was defeated 27 votes to 11 in Parliament’s 40-member Legislative Council.

Is racism in the health industry costing lives?

Calls for a broad conversation on how to tackle stereotyping and poor cultural understanding within the health industry are gathering support.
Flinders University researcher Dennis McDermott, head of the Poche Centre for Indigenous Health and Well-Being, said racism still exists in many forms in Australia’s health system.
