We will be wearing red, holding red umbrellas, placards, and signs….and we’ll be loud and proud. June the 2nd is International Whores Day, a day celebrated in solidarity with our sex working brethren nationally and internationally. The day shines a light on the issues of stigma and discrimination faced by sex workers across the globe, while simultaneously reminding people that sex workers make informed choices, have agency, and can speak for ourselves. Sex work is work; and International Whores Day celebrates all the work we do – from consensual commercial sexual services, to peer driven community engagement. Come along to the rally, it starts at 1pm on the steps of Parliament house, and afterwards we’ll be heading down to the Torrens for a celebratory picnic!
The next afternoon, the 3rd of June, we will be having an event to gather feedback on our constitution.
Currently our constitution is in draft form and, as SIN moves towards autonomy, we need input from past and present sex workers. This event starts at 1pm and goes through till 5.30pm.
After the consultation we will be having a PYJAMA PARTY! Starting at 7pm and finishing late, we will be celebrating International Whores Day with a pyjama themed party. Both the consultation event and the pyjama party will be held at the Worldsend Hotel, 208 Hindley Street West. So throw on your PJ’s – nighty, flannelettes, onesie, etc – and join us for a night of fun.
