Resources Project Officer: job vacancy at NAPWHA

NAPWHA is seeking a Resources Project Officer to join their team in Newtown, Sydney and deliver two education projects in 2020.

The ideal applicant will have experience developing online learning resources, ideally in the community health sector and for people living with HIV. They will have experience in project management, working with and managing committees, and delivering projects on budget within a clear deadline. They will also be well-versed in the principles of adult education.

If you have high level resource development skills and enjoy working autonomously and collaboratively within a small team, this may be the job for you. People living with HIV are particularly encouraged to apply.

This four-day a week position is for a 12-month fixed-term contract and carries a total salary package of 60-70K pro rata. Salary packaging is also available.

A sex-positive approach in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights programming for youth

FRESH: Aboriginal Focus course on 27-28 June

The FRESH Course: Aboriginal Focus is a 2-day course for workers who wish to improve their sexual and reproductive health knowledge and address sexual and reproductive health and relationship issues within Aboriginal communities.

On completion of the FRESH course, you will:

  • have an increased level of confidence working with Aboriginal communities in the area of sexual health
  • have a better understanding of cultural sensitivities and how to engage around sexual health
  • be able to identify the sexual health issues faced by Aboriginal people in South Australia
  • be introduced to new sexual health language and communication skills to improve client/worker relationships
  • develop skills to yarn with clients about their sexual health needs
  • be exposed to appropriate Aboriginal sexual health resources

We have an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified and enthusiastic person to join our Schools Education and Support Team based at our Woodville office but working with schools across South Australia.  In this role, you will be responsible for increasing the capacity of principals, teachers and school communities by delivering professional development to teachers in:

  • Teaching it Like it is: Relationships and Sexual Health Curriculum and Education Courses
  • The South Australian Department for Education’s Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum

This role will require you to work as part of a team to:

  • Develop, implement and evaluate best practice approaches to relationships and sexual health issues in schools.
  • Work collaboratively with the Department for Education and other relevant agencies.
  • Plan, implement and evaluate professional education courses for teachers.
  • Develop and evaluate curricula and resources for students from primary, secondary and disability sectors.
  • Actively participate in SHINE SA’s Health Promotion strategies.

To be eligible for this position you must:

  • Have a tertiary qualification in Education and be registered or able to register with the Teachers’ Registration Board of South Australia.
  • Have a current, full driver’s license and be able to undertake intra-state travel

Rules about sex: getting them right – upcoming training day

This stand-alone workshop introduces participants to a wide range of education resources that may be borrowed from SHINE SA and provides permanent access to an electronic resource on CD that can be applied immediately in the workplace.

The CD based resource has been produced to assist workers and carers to assess knowledge and teach rules about touch and sexual behaviour and strategies for sexual safety and improved relationships.

In this practical full-day module, you will be supported to apply the resource practically and ethically, using your own laptop.

The aims are to:
> reduce sexual victimisation of people with disability
> reduce the incidence of sexual behaviours which may cause offence to others
> prevent vulnerable people with a disability from involvement with the law and possible long-term consequences of this

Suitable participants include: developmental educators, service coordinators, special
education workers, therapists, disability advocates, police and parents.

Important: Please bring a laptop computer with a CD drive, installed with MS Word,
MS Powerpoint, or equivalent. An external plug-in mouse will be an advantage.

Rosie in the Classroom: Lesson plans for teachers

Rosie, a national harm prevention initiative by the Dugdale Trust for Women & Girls.

Rosie in the Classroom is an educational program based on the original Rosie Videos, created to assist teachers in talking about difficult but important topics.

Topics like sexting or respect in relationships should be incorporated into the curriculum so that all teenagers are aware of their rights and can encourage respect within their school community. Each module includes a downloadable lesson plan and video which can be screened in class.

These lesson plans have been written by Briony O’Keeffe, lead teacher at Fitzroy High School and facilitator of the Fitzroy High School Feminist Collective.
