This is a really exciting time if you live in Australia and have hep C. The Federal government has announced that new direct acting antiviral (DAA) treatment drugs will be free and available to you from 1 March 2016.
The new treatments are:
- Harvoni® (sofosbuvir/ledipasvir) two drugs combined in each pill
- Sovaldi® and Daklinza® (sofosbuvir and daclatasvir) separate pills, taken together
- Sovaldi® and Ibavyr® (sofosbuvir and ribavirin) separate pills, taken together
Other new drugs for treating hep C are under development and in the approval process. These new drugs will probably be also made available.
